Annaprashan, also known as Annaprasana, literally means “grain initiation.” During this ritual, the baby is symbolically fed solid food, usually cooked rice. Although the food is offered in very small quantity, the ceremony represents the beginning of the child’s journey with nourishment beyond milk.
